XMM - Newton observation of the interacting cluster Abell 3528

چکیده
We analyze the XMM-Newton dataset of the interacting cluster of galaxies Abell 3528 located westward in the core of the Shapley Supercluster, the largest concentration of mass in the nearby Universe. A3528 is formed by two interacting clumps (A3528-N at North and A3528-S at South) separated by 0.9 h −1 70 Mpc at redshift 0.053. XMM-Newton data describe these clumps as relaxed structure with an overall temperature of 4.14 ± 0.09 and 4.29 ± 0.07 keV in A3528-N and A3528-S, respectively, and a core cooler by a factor 1.4–1.5 and super-solar metal abundance in the inner 30 arcsec. These clumps are connected by a X-ray soft, bridge-like emission and present asymmetric surface brightness with significant excess in the North–West region of A3528-N and in the North–East area of A3528-S. However, we do not observe any evidence of shock heated gas, both in the surface brightness and in the temperature map. Considering also that the optical light distribution is more concentrated around A3528-N and makes A3528-S barely detectable, we do not find support to the originally suggested head-on pre-merging scenario and conclude that A3528 is in a off-axis post-merging phase, where the closest cores encounter happened about 1–2 Gyrs ago.

XMM - Newton EPIC Observation of the Galaxy Cluster A 3667 ⋆
The Abell cluster of galaxies A3667 was observed with XMM-Newton in 6 partially overlapping pointings. We present here the resulting X-ray surface brightness, temperature, entropy and pressure maps and discuss the structure of this cluster on scales from 0.1 to 30 arcminutes. Based on these observations we refine the origin of the A3667 cold front to the displacement of the low entropy, high me...
متن کاملXMM-Newton and Chandra view of the Cluster Abell 85 and its X-Ray Filament
Abstract. From ROSAT data, the bright X-ray cluster Abell 85 was found to show a roughly symmetrical shape, on to which are superimposed several features, among which: (1) a blob or group of galaxies falling on to the main cluster, with the gas in the impact region probably hotter and the galaxies in that zone showing enhanced star formation; (2) a filament, either diffuse or made of small grou...
متن کاملRevisiting the Soft X-ray Excess Emission in Clusters of Galaxies Observed with Xmm-newton
We analyze four XMM-Newton galaxy clusters (Abell 1795, Abell S1101, Abell 1835 and MKW 3s) in order to test whether their soft X-ray excess emission in the 0.2–0.5 keV band as reported by Kaastra et al. (2003) maintains after application of current knowledge of the XMM-Newton background and calibration. In this context, we examine the recent claim (Bregman et al., 2006) that the XMM-Newton sub...
متن کاملAn XMM - Newton view of the cluster of galaxies Abell 85
We have observed the cluster of galaxies Abell 85 with XMM-Newton. These data have allowed us to confirm in a previous paper the existence of the extended 4 Mpc filament detected by the ROSAT PSPC in the neighbourhood of this cluster, and to determine an X-ray temperature of about ∼ 2 keV. We now present a thorough analysis of the properties of the X-ray gas in the cluster itself, including tem...
متن کاملApplication of a Xmm-newton Epic Monte Carlo to Analysis and Interpretation of Data for Abell 1689, Rxj0658-55 and the Centaurus Clusters of Galaxies
We propose a new Monte Carlo method to study extended X-ray sources with the European Photon Imaging Camera (EPIC) aboard XMM Newton. The Smoothed Particle Inference (SPI) technique, described in a companion paper, is applied here to the EPIC data for the clusters of galaxies Abell 1689, Centaurus and RXJ 0658-55 (the “bullet cluster”). We aim to show the advantages of this method of simultaneo...
